Is This REALLY Happening?

Tomorrow morning I board a plane to Santa Ana, CA to fulfill one of the many things I have always wanted to do but NEVER thought I actually would. Since 1998 when I was first introduced to the music of Switchfoot, I have wanted to see them live in concert in there home town, San Diego. Never in my wildest dreams, although I always said I would do it before I was 30, did I imagine it happening! My sweet friend Erin call in early spring and told me that Switchfoot would be playing a show with Dave Matthews in Chula Vista, CA and that she was buying us tickets and we were GOING! We talked to some of our other girlfriends who share the same love for Switchfoot and they all considered long and hard and Amy decided to join us!!! So the three of us are meeting in OC tomorrow, staying with some friends of Amy's, driving up the coast Saturday into San Diego, hanging out in the city and ending the day in Chula Vista at the show!!! (we fly out at 620am Sunday morning but who needs sleep!)

Now, let it be known that I am not a Swtichfoot stalker or creeper, but I do greatly love their music. When the new album comes out I often feel like I have opened my journal and Jon and the guys have put amazing lyrics and music to the thoughts of my heart. I am grateful to the Lord for the many moments He has used their songs to minister to my soul, to convict, to comfort, to encourage.

****it has come to my attention that I should revise the give away...you can try the below, but if you cant do it, just leave your fav song and why***

I was thinking that in honor of us going I would do a little give away, my first on this blog actually! I am going to list 6 stanzas from various Switchfoot songs, that over the years the Lord has used. If you can, without googling them, tell me what songs they are from, I will put all the people who got the correct answers (or who give it a good shot) in a drawing. Whoever wins, I will get them something at the show!!!

Also include your favorite Switchfoot song and why!

Okay here goes:

1) These carbon shells
These fragile dusty frames
House canvases of souls
We are bruised and broken masterpieces
But we did not paint ourselves

2) Hope has given himself to the worst
Is this fiction or divine comedy?
Where the last of the last finish first

3)I give You my apathy
I'm giving You all of me
I want Your symphony
Singing in all that I am
At the top of my lungs I'm giving it back

4)They're taking pictures of
The man who's lost all of his
Masks of pretension
He's got two faces left
His is the one that he hides
On the left behind that smile
Hiding tears and fear
That burn like an engine
It drives him away
From the ones that he loves

5)I want to see miracles, see the world change
Wrestled the angel, for more than a name
For more than a feeling
For more than a cause
I'm singing Spirit take me up in arms with You
And You're raising the dead in me

6) And all I see It could never make me happy
And all my sand castles
Spend their time collapsing

Okay...HAVE FUN!!!

Per Amber's request...

1. Economy of Mercy...also your blog title song
2. Living is Simple
3. Only Hope...so good. Also liked Mandy Moore's version on Walk to Remember soundtrack
4. Company Car
5. Twenty-Four...we have talked about this song. Love it! "I'm singin' spirit take me up in arms with you! You're raising the dead in me."
6. Let that be enough...I love this song b/c when I was living in Midland before I knew anyone...I turned 22 on a Thursday. "It's my birthday tomorrow, no one hear could know. I was born this Thursday 22 years ago. And I feel stuck watching history repeating. Yeah, who am I? Just a kid who knows he's needy." I can't even tell you how many times I listened to that song and cried that day.

Okay...so you know I can't choose A favorite. So I have picked one from each album that I have been known to listen to on repeat.

Don't Be There (Legends of Chin): I can't recall myself how I went down. Did I get shot or shoot myself
Sooner or Later (New Way to Be Human): Today is ours, condemned to be free, free to keep breathing, free to believe.
Learning to Breathe (Learning to Breathe): Learning to breathe, learning to crawl, I'm finding that you and you alone will break my fall. I'm living again, awake and alive, I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies p.s. this song makes me cry every time...yay for title cuts.
On Fire (Beautiful Letdown): Standing on the edge of everything I've never been before, and I'm standing on the edge of me, I'm standing on the edge.
The Blues (Nothing is Sound): It'll be a day like this one, when the sky falls down and the hungry and poor and deserted are found. Are you discontented? Have you been pushing hard? Have you been throwing down this broken house of cards? It'll be a day like this one, when the world caves in
Head over Heals (Oh!Gravity): In this life you're the one place I call home. In this life you're the feeling I belong. In this life you're the flower and the thorn. You're everything that's fair in love and war.

That was longer than necessary. If I don't win...I will give you money to buy me something. Have fun. I am jealous.

Love you!

I...cannot...believe...YOU GET TO SEE SWITCHFOOT AND DMB TOGETHER IN CALIFORNIA!! That is UNBELIEVABLE!! Seriously, I read your post, and I'm sitting here in my office in the center of the States and am really excited for you!!
Also...you're having a giveaway on your blog, and that is remarkable!! It makes me smile. So I have given your quiz a shot, but I'm not always good at titles. I might be able to sing the rest of the verse, but titles...mmmm. I'll tell you this: As soon as I read your quiz instructions, I thought, "I'll bet 'Economy of Mercy' is either first or last!! And that leads to my answer for #1: 'Economy of Mercy!!' :)
2. 'Living is Simple'
3. It's either 'Only Yours' or 'Only Hope'...either way, it's outstanding.
4. I do not know this one...I am clearly not as Switchy as you are!!
5. '24'
6. 'Enough'??

Okay, I just looked them up and see that 4 is Company Car, and that I was really close on #6...I tried!!! ;) Thanks for the quiz...it's great fun!!
Jake Pullen and I used to actually plan music quizzes for one another in which we would put albums in our 'shopping cart' on Amazon, then play 30-second clips to see if we could guess artist & song...we would get SO excited about our own music quizzes...it got competitive and hilarious!! So your quiz: GREAT!!

So there's my name in the hat for the Amber Burger Giveaway Extravaganza!! You're gonna have such an AMAZING TIME!!! Have fun!! Oh, and my favorite Switchfoot song is either 24 or Love is a Movement...or the entire Learning to Breathe album....one of those three. :) Have a great time, Amber!!

Ok, I totally don't know the song titles and I have to be honest and tell you that I am very tempted to look at the other comments and copy their answers (it's not googling), but I will just tell you my favorite song instead.

I have always loved "Let That Be Enough". As much as I am extroverted, I am also pretty melancholy and I struggle a lot with feeling stuck and alone. So I find myself praying prayers that sound a lot like this song. "Lord, I feel lost and frustrated with everything I try to do right falling apart. I want things to work. But, mostly, I want to know you more, to trust your presence, and be satisfied in you. Help my unbelief."

So hearing someone else sing that, blesses me a ton.
